PAINT PROTECTION FILM FAQ

Paint Protection Film FAQ: FAQ

WHAT IS PAINT PROTECTION FILM?

Paint protection film is made of thermoplastic polyurethane, it is a see through film and when applied to the surface becomes virtually invisible to the eye. The film usually gets applied to the high impact areas such as front bumper, fenders, hood and mirrors to protect the paint from rock chips and flying debris during normal driving. Paint protection film is self healing, meaning light surface level scratches and scuffs can be removed by applying direct heat. The best time to have the film installed is when the vehicle is brand new and free of sustained damage, however it is never too late.

HOW DO YOU PRICE PAINT PROTECTION FILM?

When pricing a vehicle we take into consideration the package the client is purchasing as well as the size of their vehicle. Because of various factors involved in estimating the total price of paint protection film we can only give accurate estimates once we know the year, make and model of the vehicle.

DO YOU REQUEST A DEPOSIT?

All paint protection film services require a 50% deposit to book an appointment. The remaining balance is due at the time of vehicle pick up.

HOW LONG IS THIS SERVICE?

The duration of this service depends on the package our client selects as well as the size and complexity of the vehicle. Please allow the service to take one to two business day for the partial front end protection, two to three days for full front end protection and up to 10 days for complete paint protection service. We value quality over quantity to make sure each service we provide is of the highest standard.

DO YOU OFFER A WARRANTY?

All LLumar paint protection film installation services receive a 10 year LLumar manufacturer warranty. Upon completing the service we will register the warranty with LLumar that will  automatically be shared with Carfax using your vehicle’s VIN number for record keeping purposes. The warranty excludes damages caused by negligence or damages caused by normal wear and tear. It’s important to remember that improper care of paint protection film such as using harsh chemicals, acids or abrasives to clean the film can cause permanent damage and will void any and all warranty. The warranty is non-transferable. We value our clients time and will work together with the client to find a solution that delivers quality of service that we stand behind.

HOW TO MAINTAIN PAINT PROTECTION FILM?

Taking care of paint protection film is not much different from taking care of regular surface paint. We recommend our clients to maintain their vehicle with us for the best results, however a PH balanced hand wash, microfiber towel and high quality sealant should do the job. We recommend our clients to stay away from automated car washes and having the vehicle be detailed by parties unfamiliar with paint protection film. Nevertheless the film is very durable and the self healing properties should take care of improper washes if those were to happen. Also it is crucial to stay away from harsh chemicals such as bleach and acids.

HOW SOON CAN I WASH THE VEHICLE?

The film will initially need 24 hours of curing to completely bond to the surface of the vehicle. Given this information we do recommend our clients to stay away from washing their vehicles for at least 7 days. Please make sure to avoid using a power washer whenever possible as it can potentially lift the film and introduce contamination underneath.

WHAT COMES STANDARD WITH EACH PACKAGE?

Each paint protection film installation receives an exterior detailing service with addition of Iron decontamination and clay bar treatment on areas where the film will be applied . This is an important step that determines the overall quality of installation and adhesion of the film. Once the vehicle is prepped we proceed with the selected package.

WHAT BRAND OF PAINT PROTECTION FILM DO WE USE?

We partner with LLumar to offer their line of high quality paint protection films. LLumar warranties their film to last 10 years without changing color, cracking or bubbling. We trust LLumar quality and have had a lot of success working with this international company.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PAINT PROTECTION FILM AND VINYL?

Paint protection film and vinyl wrap are two different categories that are designed to deliver different value. The paint protection film is thicker than vinyl and can absorb impact from rock chips and minor scratches. The film only comes in two variations however, clear and matte which can give your gloss vehicle a matte finish. Vinyl wrap is a stretchy material that comes in variety of colors, textures and finishes with the primary goal to change the color of a particular part or the entire vehicle. While the vinyl can protect from light scratches it is not designed to be a significant protection against rock chips and road debris.

WHAT PAINT PROTECTION FILM DOES NOT DO?

While paint protection film is currently the best solution to protect the paint on your vehicle the film is only designed to protect against certain elements. Dents, deep scratches, and hail damage can all still occur. Although the chance of scratches getting through to the paint is significantly reduced, the film is not a bulletproof vest. Paint protection film will also absorb the shock of rock chips hitting the car but a dent can still occur given the size of flying debris. Overall, paint protection film is currently the best option on the market when it comes to protecting your vehicle.
